Praying For Fate, Chapter 5 Part 3

With a flight over ten hours, Su YuanHeng drowned irritably in dizziness and discomfort. The flight attendant came over a couple of times to asked if he was okay. Su YuanHeng replied, “Just a bit airsick but I’m fine.”

He didn’t know how he got to the destination. When he got off the plane, he completely lacked energy. He slept the entire day in the hotel. Fortunately, he is a doctor himself. After taking some medicine, he finally regained some strength. The next day, recalling the address from his memory, he found the BeiTang family’s mansion in a luxury area of Long Island.

This is the first time Su YuanHeng came to look for BeiTang MinQian. Standing in front of the big entrance gate, he realized how crude his behavior appeared to be.

He stood silently for half an hour outside the door. Finally, he made the determination and was just about to ring the doorbell when he suddenly heard laughters coming from the foresty trail behind the home.

Su YuanHeng was slightly shocked. He subconsciously leaned sideways and hid behind a tree. Looking over, it is BeiTang MinQian and woman turning from the front.

The woman was wearing sunglasses. Su YuanHeng immediately recognized that she is the daughter of Lin’s Corporation. They were both dressed in matching outfit for lovers; a black T-shirt and pair of dark blue jeans. The two were even wearing the same caps.

BeiTang MinQian didn’t wear any sunglasses. His cap was pushed down but Su YuanHeng could still very clearly see his eyes and his mouth that is revealing a smile.

The two were dressed looking very youthful, like two college students, holding hands, talking and laughing as they walk slowly toward the house. He didn’t know what BeiTang MinQian said but the girl was laughing nonstop. All of a sudden, she slammed into BeiTang MinQian’s back and patted his shoulder shouting, “Piggyback me! Piggyback me!”

She jumped directly onto BeiTang MinQian’s back. BeiTang MinQian actually bent down and carried her on his back and turned a few laps in place.

The girl’s laughter clearly reached Su YuanHeng ears. He only felt his body trembling as he gloomily look at this scene.

Suddenly the girl on BeiTang MinQian’s back said something and BeiTang MinQian also laughed. Su YuanHeng faintly heard him say “… What are you afraid of? I’ll take care of you for the rest of your life anyway ……”

Su YuanHeng only heard these few words and then he saw BeiTang MinQian suddenly run to the entrance gate carrying the girl. The two peoples’ laughters happily intertwined with New York’s beautiful autumn scenery, creating a warm landscape.

Su YuanHeng slowly hid himself behind the tree, leaning against the tree trunk, unable to think. He heard the two people passing the front gate. When he turned to the other side of the tree, he saw that BeiTang MinQian had put down her and was holding her hand as they walked on the garden lawn, talking and laughing as they walked toward the main house.

Su YuanHeng had never seen this side of BeiTang MinQian. He felt so distant and so unfamiliar.

Heartache accompanied by abdominal pain made Su YuanHeng slowly sit down on the side of the tree trunk.

One of his hand tightly pressed on his belly, the other dug into the trunk unknowingly. His forehead sweating cold bullets making his pale cheeks seem even more helpless.

MinQian … MinQian … … as it turns out, you have found a new love this fast.

Why did I need to come to New York? I should have just stayed home, stayed in the place that belongs only to the both of us so I can’t see your lover and your happiness. That’s the only way I can live on.

Su YuanHeng felt that his breathing is particularly difficult. He sat beneath the tree for a long time with his body curled up in a ball and his hands tightly gripping his belly.

Until the cars gradually increased in the evening and a vehicle drove pass the main street is when Su YuanHeng slowly regained his senses.

Glancing down at his watch, he had actually sat for more than three hours.

He leaned back on the trunk and slowly stood up, but felt a burst of pain in his belly.

He knew that his situation was not good and started to panic. He barely managed to walk the dozen meters along the main road and hailed a taxi to get back to the hotel.

He took out his medicine from the suitcase and quickly swallowed it. Then he lay in bed, not daring to make a move.

He knew he is probably at risk of a miscarriage. Fortunately, he had the medicine with him and only looked forward to the safety of this child.

He didn’t have any close friends in America. For him to go to the hospital alone, he certainly won’t. He didn’t want to be treated as a research object for a rare case of the MoYe people.

Su YuanHeng lay in the hotel for a three entire days. His mind was in chaos every day. The only thing he did was call Qiu ZhiYuan for consultation regarding the baby.

When Qiu ZhiYuan heard that he went to America, he was extremely angry. Unfortunately, he is too far away and is unable to provide any other assistance. He can only recommend a few medications to nurture the baby and his health.

Su YuanHeng tipped the hotel waiter to help him get the medicine from the pharmacy. Following the doctor’s order, his physical condition finally stabilized.

Since he is also a doctor, he knew that with his current physical condition, it’d be impossible for him to return to China. That is, unless he doesn’t want to live. After feeling better, he checked out the hotel, bought a bus ticket to the South, got his luggage and went back to where he had previously lived for nine years.

From the age of ten to nineteen, Su YuanHeng had lived here. He returned to the country under the recommendation of his adoptive father, Su Yi. Ever since, there was only one time that he returned, and that was when Su Yi passed away seven years ago.

At the time, Su Yi told him, “After my death, you can sell the house. Your adoptive mother and I have nothing, only this house. The money from the sale is the inheritance that we have left for you.”

Su YuanHeng responded, “I’m not going to sell it. Dad, this is our home; it has all our most precious memories.”

Su Yi smiled comfortably. Then closed his eyes and passing away peacefully.

There is a family portrait on the fireplace, painted by Su YuanHeng’s adoptive mother in the last few months before her death. Each painted stroke is very slow, very meticulous, and full of emotions.

His adoptive mother often said, “When two people meet, it is fate. I fell in love your dad, it is fate. You coming into our family is also fate. Nothing in this world can be imposed, so we need to treasure everything that we have in that moment.”

His adoptive mother’s hand was very warm; she liked to touch Su YuanHeng’s head and called him “son.” She had a son, but unfortunately she could not see him grow after the age of ten when he passed away. So toward Su YuanHeng’s growth, she was full of love and was very concerned with every little thing.

Mother Dean and his adoptive mother are the two most intimate women in Su YuanHeng’s life. All his beautiful memories and fantasies of women stemmed from these two great women.

He deeply remembered the words of his adoptive mother; “Fate is not something that can be forced. People should not have inordinate desires.”

Just like the love between his adoptive parents, they also can’t defeat god’s will ultimately. When life comes to an end, their fate also ends.

What about the fate between him and BeiTang MinQian?

Maybe their fate was only meant for a few short years. Like his father and the person he deeply loved, they were fated to meet but not to be together.

The rooms were covered with white cloth all around. Everything looked the same as when he left this place, only now it is full of dust.

Su YuanHeng was exhausted and had no energy to clean up. He quickly cleared out the bedroom and fell to sleep for an entire day.

When he woke up, the view out the window looked the same as before he fell asleep. Su YuanHeng glance at his watch, suspecting that he had slept for only ten minutes but very soon came to realize that it was already the next evening.

Su YuanHeng felt his heavy body not belonging to himself. He didn’t even want to move. However, the hunger rising from his belly reminded him that no matter what, he has to eat.

When he returned the day before, he had called the electric company to restore the electricity. He called a nearby Chinese restaurant to order takeout but looking at the food, he suddenly had no appetite.

With much difficulty, he finally ate it and then began to clean up the house.

Since he hasn’t been back for a long time, this place looked like a deserted haunted house. Eventually, it took him half a month to tidy and clean up the place. During this period of time, he didn’t think about anything at all. Merely resting, curling himself up in this familiar and warm place and feeling the little life growing slowly inside.

Maybe because he is already thirty years old and is also man, his health was bad since the pregnancy. The risk he took in coming to America put him in a lot of pain. After seeing BeiTang MinQian with his new love, he instead made up his mind to keep the child.

If it is to say that his and BeiTang MinQian’s fate can’t be forced, then at least for this child, fate needs this child to be with him for a long, long time.

  1. I feel like Qian doesn’t deserve YuanHeng whatsoever. Lots of better man out there will make Qian happy and feel loved. However, knowing that this story has a happy ending, I hope this author, at least, make Qian work very very hard to win YuanHeng’s heart back. Because this is just super sad, not just the toxic love or the lack thereof, even before Qian knocked YuanHeng up, in those 6 years, he just simply came in and went out of YuanHeng’s life as he pleased and was fooling around. I mean, come on.

    1. I very much agree with you. In this relationship. Su is always the one putting in all the effort, the one that is sure of his feelings.. while turning a blind eye to Qian’s rendevous with other and his uncertain feelings. I guess he went into it w/o expecting anything.. so he knew not to expect anything.. it still just very sad. As for how much effort Qian should put in to win YuanHeng back…you’ll have to decided if it’s sufficient.
